I think that when the execs realize that a sports event is running at least a half-hour late, they don't even bother to do an east coast version of Nightly News since, as you pointed out, the local affiliate would just end up pre-empting it for local news anyway. But NBC does air Nightly News in other time zones if the time difference allows the sports event to finish before 6:00 in that zone. Meanwhile, what does it say about NBC's priorities that they require affiliates to carry sports but not news?Norman Charleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14816412043439634534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3806544672301104044.post-77454991349098303082012-04-29T13:39:14.802-07:002012-04-29T13:39:14.802-07:00You really need to think about when you say that &...You really need to think about when you say that 'there was no nightly news tonight'. Actually, there is usually a newscast every night. It's your local affiliate that decides to not air it (usually because they can make more money for the local station by selling local commercial blocks during local news shows). And by contract they are REQUIRED to air sports, not news. That's not the fault of Nightly producers at all.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
